چکیده

The friction and wear properties of polyamide 66 (PA66), polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) sliding against hemselves under dry sliding and oil-lubricated conditions were studied by using a pin-on-disc tribometer. The effect of applied load and sliding peed on tribological behaviors of the polymer–polymer sliding combinations under dry sliding and oil-lubricated conditions were also investigated. he worn surfaces were examined by using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Experimental results showed that friction properties of the three liding combinations could be greatly improved by oil lubrication, the antiwear properties of PTFE and PPS were improved by oil lubrication, while hat of PA66 were decreased by oil lubrication. Frictional heat, which would alter the physical state of polymer sliding surfaces, had significant ffect on the tribological behaviors of polymer–polymer sliding combinations under dry sliding condition, while oil lubrication could reduce or issipate the frictional heat. Adhesion wear was the dominant wear mechanism for dry sliding condition, while adhesion wear combined with rosion wear was the main wear mechanism for oil-lubricated condition. 2007 Elsevier B.V. The friction and wear performance of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE) and pure poly-ether-etherketone(PEEK) polymers were comparatively evaluated under dry sliding and cacao drops lubrication. The sliding experiments were carried out on a pin-on-disc tribometer. The contact configuration used was a polymer pin on a rotating stainless steel disc. Wear tests were carried out at ro...

Friction and Wear Performance of Glass Fiber Reinforced Poly-Ether-Ether-Ketone Composite against Different Polymer Counterparts

In tribological applications, because of the corrosive problems of the metals in water applications, poly-ether-ether-ketone (PEEK) and its composites are preferred for rubbing materials. As it is known PEEK is a high performance semi-crystalline thermoplastic polymer and has received significant attention in recent years. This is due to its high mechanical strength and elastic modulus, high to...

Friction and wear behaviours of medical grade UHMWPE at dry and lubricated conditions

In this investigation the friction and wear performance of GUR 1020 medical grade ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) polymer under dry sliding, distilled water and egg albumen lubrication conditions were evaluated. The sliding experiments were carried out on a pin-on-disc tribometer. The contact configuration used was a polymer pin on a rotating AISI 304L stainless steel disc. We...

Tribological Performance of a Polymer Blend of NBR Used for Stern Bearings

Nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) and another polymer with an excellent self-lubricating property are blended to develop a new kind of polymer used for water-lubricated stern bearings. The tribological performance of the new Polymer Blend of NBR (PBN), with the comparison of a rubber common used for most stern bearings, was studied using a stern bearing test rig of SSB-100. The results showed that...

Friction models for sliding dry, boundary and mixed lubricated contacts

Friction, lubrication, and wear have a strong influence on the performance and behavior of mechanical systems. This paper deals with different friction models for sliding contacts running under different conditions. The models presented are suited to different situations, depending on the type of contact, running conditions, and the behavior of interest. The models will be discussed from simula...
